TV Show I Love: Powerful Performance by Eva Green Led a Group of Classic Monster in “Penny Dreadful”6/28/2016 Showtime’s Penny Dreadful is one of the best shows on television. I just want to get that clear upfront, which makes the caption “The End” at the finale of season 3 very shocking indeed. Ah well…Not Much Love? Meandering Thought: I’ve been following the news about Universal wanting to make a shared monster universe (!) by rebooting classic monster films like The Mummy (already shooting with star Tom Cruise, Sofia Botella, and Russel Crowe, directed by Alex Kurtzman), The Wolf Man, The Invisible Man (with Johnny Depp set to star), Van Helsing, Creature from The Black Lagoon, and The Bride of Frankenstein (with Angeline Jolie rumoured to star), and then afterwards making one Avengers-type movie where they join forces to battle, um, bigger monsters? They’re on the right track with the big stars and am not gonna be a doubter by saying WTF! to the idea before even seeing it but I do wonder why in any of these news they never mentioned the fact that currently we already have a classic-monster mashup, and that’s Penny Dreadful! Might not be the blockbuster-scale they’re going for but for weighty drama/horror inspiration, I don’t think they could find anything better (at the moment) …
